SANY road machines support Maldives International Airport renovation project

Over 10 SANY road machines have been used in the Maldives International Airport to help the hospitable Maldivians renovate the airport and welcome more guests around the world.

With more people traveling to Maldives, the existing runway is struggling to meet the demand. This renovation project, therefore, aims to improve the quality of the airport roadway and meet the growing flight demand. 

The challenge is that the airport remains operating throughout the construction, which is rare in similar projects worldwide. Asphalt used for the construction is mixed with highly viscous rubber asphalt. But the runway must be compacted and solidified within 10 minutes after being paved because 30 minutes later planes start to take off and land. Therefore, it has very high requirement for the stability and work efficiency of road machines. To be specific, the road machines need to have a good control of the temperature of tamping tool and asphalt, ensuring no asphalt sticking to the tool and smooth pavement. In addition, rollers require excellent and efficient compaction performance without adhering to materials. Even though there are challenges and limited time, all SANY road machines including pavers, tandem rollers, tire rollers and milling machines have worked without any failure for 200 hours.
